Charles’a çağrıda bulunuldu.

KKTC MOK, Commonwealth Başkanı Majesteleri Kral III. Charles’a çağrıda bulunarak, Commonwealth’in temel ilkeleri olan adalet, eşitlik ve halklar arasında ayrım gözetmeme anlayışına uygun şekilde davranılması gerektiğini vurguladı.

Açıklamada, “Kıbrıs Türk halkı yok sayılmamalıdır. Eşit uluslararası temsiliyetin, karşılıklı saygının ve adadaki iki halkın gerçeklerinin kabul edilmesinin barışa hizmet edeceğine inanıyoruz. Kıbrıs Türk halkının görmezden gelinmesine karşı sessiz kalmayacağız” ifadelerine yer verildi.

The TRNC National Olympic Committee has condemned the decision to bring the Commonwealth Games Torch to the island of Cyprus between 20-23 May 2026 while carrying it exclusively within the Greek Cypriot Administration of Southern Cyprus.

In its statement, the Committee emphasized that the complete exclusion of the Turkish Cypriot people from this process constitutes an unacceptable example of discrimination.

The statement drew attention to the Commonwealth’s core principles of justice, equality and non-discrimination among peoples, and called on His Majesty King Charles III, in his capacity as Head of the Commonwealth, to act in accordance with these principles.

The TRNC NOC noted that the Commonwealth, also known as the “Commonwealth of Nations,” is an international association made up of more than 50 countries, many of which have historical ties with the United Kingdom.

The statement underlined that the Commonwealth is not a military or political union, and that the Commonwealth Games will be held in Glasgow in July with the participation of member states. It was also stated that the torch belonging to the organization will be brought to Cyprus between 20-23 May 2026.

The statement included the following remarks:

“The decision to carry the torch exclusively within the Greek Cypriot Administration of Southern Cyprus, while completely ignoring the Turkish Cypriot people, is an unacceptable example of discrimination. This approach disregards the reality that there are two peoples and two democratic entities on the island, and it is incompatible with the principles of equality, justice and inclusiveness.”

The Committee also stressed that the Turkish Cypriot people have been subjected to unjust isolation in the fields of international sports, culture and diplomacy for decades.

It stated that the exclusion of Turkish Cypriots even from symbolic events organized under the banner of universal values by an institution such as the Commonwealth has caused deep disappointment.

The TRNC National Olympic Committee called on His Majesty King Charles III, as Head of the Commonwealth, to ensure that the Commonwealth acts in line with its fundamental principles of justice, equality and non-discrimination among peoples.

“The Turkish Cypriot people must not be ignored. We believe that equal international representation, mutual respect and the recognition of the realities of the two peoples on the island will contribute to peace. We will not remain silent in the face of the continued disregard of the Turkish Cypriot people,” the statement said.
